Why I'm building Do This Next

#The moment

Placeholder. The real opening is the specific evening: another thing shipped, another empty analytics dashboard, and the growing suspicion that this was a pattern rather than bad luck.

#The actual problem

Technical founders do not have a building problem. They have a what-happens-next problem, and most advice for it comes in one of two useless shapes:

• A four hundred page growth playbook aimed at a company with a marketing team
• A tweet that says "just talk to your users" and then stops

Neither of those is a next action.

#What it does

You give it your site. It works out what you are selling and who might plausibly want it, then hands you one thing to do next. One. Not a strategy, not a funnel diagram, not a checklist of forty items you will never start.

The bar I set for it: if it gives you three things to do, it has failed, because you will do none of them.

#What I am unsure about

Placeholder, and this is the section worth writing honestly:

1. Whether the single-action constraint survives contact with real users
2. Whether people want advice or want it done for them
3. Whether I am building it for other people or for myself

The third one is at least a good sign for the product and a bad sign for my objectivity.
